In: Communication & langages, N 205, 3, 2020-08-31, pp.77-93 (2020)
; The urban music of West Africa’s major cities is strongly marked by transgressive statements. Since 2010, this change of tone has been observed in this society where interactions are marked by modesty. How can the development of such creations be explained? The analysis of the process of emergence, as well as the various uses, of the phenomena, shows that social media have played a major role in the development and diffusion of this music by making censorship almost impossible. What’s more, we are witnessing the birth of a subculture linked to this new artistic expression, attesting its social, cultural, economic and political significance.
